Calm after the storm? Or is it?
Yes, it's the Chappel-Ganguly saga I'm talking about. Not surprising is it, since that's probably the most gripping (or sickening depending on which way you look at it) cricket action going on these days.
Interestingly the "amicable settlement" this time wasn't accompanied by photo-shoots and a game of pool to the best of my knowledge. Looking back, all that patch-up drama in Zimbabwe just seems like such a terrible script and acting performance by the protagonists..
Will things change for the better? Can the two really work it out in the next few weeks? Or will Mr.Chappel, MBE, quit without delivering on his vision and "Commitment to Excellence" ? Or will Ganguly be made to quit very soon, as increasingly people have begun to expect?
Personally, I'd rather listen to Chappell giving commentary, for I think he is a much better talker than he is as a coach or man-manager. He's fiercely competitive and knows to make statements -- as he has shown in the past on the cricket field (remember the last-ball under-arm delivery?) , but whether all the competitiveness and determination augurs well for a bunch of people with probably a different mindset remains to be seen.
As for Ganguly, if he survives this crisis and manages to regain a semblance of form that will help him retain the captaincy until 2007, he could very well carry his instincts and his luck to that cherished goal of a World Cup win. Prophetic? Let's wait and see...
(this was originally posted on Sept 28--- but it turned out to be on another blog.. i won't get into those details though.... )
